Why We Love It

These homemade Lemon Ginger Turmeric Shots are great for overall wellness and health, jam-packed with a big burst of vitamins and minerals in every tiny glass!

The ginger gives the drink a spicy “good burn” taste as you drink it, which is nicely complimented by the earthy, fragrant turmeric and tart, sweet lemon juice.

You can make it in your juicer or blender in just a few minutes using just four ingredients. I like to make a big batch and freeze it in individual servings.

Health Benefits

Like my Ginger Brew and Ginger Carrot Apple Juice, this drink will help you feel your best! Here’s how:

👉 Lemons are a good source of vitamin C, citric acid, and iron, all of which help build immunity and support overall health and wellness.

👉 Ginger is believed to support the immune system, and “is loaded with antioxidants, compounds that prevent stress and damage to your body’s DNA,” according to WebMD.

👉 Turmeric is rich in vitamin C, vitamin B6, manganese, and more, and has been used for centuries for its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

👉 Black Pepper contains piperine, which improves the body’s absorption of curcumin, the main active ingredient and anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound found in turmeric. That means that without black pepper, you may miss out on some of the healthy properties of turmeric. So don’t skip the pepper!

Ingredients Notes:

  • If you can’t find fresh turmeric, you can stir 3-4 teaspoons of powdered turmeric into the juice.
  • Optional ingredients: For extra nutrition and delicious flavor, feel free to include 2-3 peeled oranges, 3-4 kale leaves, or 2 peeled grapefruits.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: Prep the ingredients by washing all the produce well. 👉 I wash my produce by soaking it in water with a splash of vinegar for about 10 minutes, then rinsing it well.

Peel the lemons, setting aside the skins. Cut the lemons into pieces small enough to fit down the juicer chute.

Don’t peel the ginger and turmeric, but do cut away any soft, shriveled, or mushy spots.

Step 2: Make the juice using a juicer or blender.

  • Juicer: Add the lemons, ginger, and turmeric to your juicer and let it do its magic according to the user instructions.
  • Blender: Add all the ingredients to your blender with 1/4 cup of water. Blend on high until everything is broken down and it forms a smoothie-like consistency. Optional: To make it more juice-like in consistency, strain the mixture by pressing it through a fine mesh sieve, or use cheese cloth to separate the solids from the liquid.

Step 3: Mix in the pepper. If you’re using powdered turmeric, add that in now as well.

Serve the juice in small serving sizes, about 1.3-1.5 ounces each. Serve it right away or store it covered in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days, and don’t leave it at room temperature for longer than 2 hours, perUSDA.

👉 The juice will separate as it sits, so give it a quick stir before drinking.

Expert Tips & Info

  • Turmeric will stain your hands, plastic cutting boards, and more. To avoid that, wear gloves and be careful about the equipment you use to prepare fresh turmeric.
  • For the best taste,I recommend that you serve the shots cold. You can either chill all the ingredients before juicing or chill it in the refrigerator before serving.
  • This recipe makes about 1 cup of liquid in total, but the exact amount depends on the efficiency of your juicer.
  • Freeze it for later! Use a silicone ice cube tray to freeze the shots in individual servings, then remove them as needed. Either defrost the cube before drinking it or add a cube to a mug of hot water to dissolve it and make fresh lemon-ginger tea.
  • ♻️ Use the leftover pulp to flavor and enhance the nutrition in your next batch of vegetable broth. You can store it in a freezer-safe bag or container until you’re ready to make it. Alternatively, you can compost the pulp.
  • Don’t have more than one shot per day. Too much curcumin (found in turmeric) can make you feel nauseous!
