Why did Insidious: The Red Door get bad reviews? ›

Insidious: The Red Door is a hot mess attempting to shoehorn in a plot between Father and Son. We get to waste time watching scenes while the Son is screwing around in college and going to frat parties. It completely misses what made the first three films great and feels like a flat and boring film.

The Red Door is the barrier between the Further and a place even further beyond the world of the living, where the most tormented souls exist.

Dalton, who resents his father for pulling away, is on his way to art school — after a painful drive to campus with Josh — where his memories begin to resurface as he pours himself into his work. The film, which was directed by Wilson (his directorial debut), marks a tonal shift in the Insidious universe.

The photo reveals that Josh is now possessed by the ghost of the old woman from his childhood, the latter having slipped into his body when he confronted her in The Further.

As she packs up for the night, Josh hands her his childhood photos, but as she takes them, she gives Josh a strange and startled look, whips out her camera and snaps a photo of Josh. Furious, Josh goes in a rage and violently strangles Elise, killing her.

I have always loved the first Insidious and the second is equally as good in my book. If you didn't like the first, you won't like the second. It's just a great spooky, scary, haunted house, ghost, abandoned hospital story that is well-done and leaves you very satisfied at the end.

All of the instruments and sounds create a non-linear and dissonant sound which evokes fear and horror through the music. The high pitch of the glissando replicates the sound of a scream adding more depth to the theme of fear and horror in the music.

"Insidious" ultimately works because of Mr. Whannell's script, which manages to be inventive and unpredictable despite its paint-by-numbers formalism. Fresh score. A tale of intriguing situations that rise to the surface carefully and cautiously before they explode in a flashy series of stimulating resolutions.

Parents need to know that Insidious is one of the most terrifying scary horror movies in some time, and it's not recommended for younger teens (or anyone without a high tolerance for "jump" scenes).
